The size of the wheel depends on the type of material that you plan to cut. You can use a quality Rubi tile cutter scoring wheel on a variety of tile surfaces, including ceramic, porcelain, stone, marble, and more.
Ceramic Tile
A 1/4-inch Rubi tile cutter scoring wheel is the most common recommendation for cutting standard ceramic tile with a thickness of 1/4 inch. However, if you are cutting thicker ceramic tile or tile with an intricate pattern, you may want a slightly larger wheel, such as a 3/8-inch wheel.
Porcelain Tile
1/2-inch Rubi tile scoring wheels are typically used for cutting standard porcelain tiles with a thickness of up to 1/2 inch. A 3/4-inch wheel may be necessary when cutting thicker or large-format porcelain tiles.
Natural Stone Tile
Natural stone tiles, including granite and marble, are dense. Stone is more difficult to cut compared to porcelain and ceramic, requiring a larger scoring wheel. You may want to use a 1/2-inch wheel or 3/4-inch wheel, even when dealing with thinner tiles.
Glass Tile
Glass tiles are fragile and can crack very easily. Use a smaller scoring wheel to decrease the risk of accidentally breaking the tile. A 1/4 inch (about 6mm) scoring wheel gives you more control and creates less force on the tile, minimizing the risk of breakage.
Quarry Tile or Terracotta
When working with quarry tile or terracotta tile, use a larger scoring wheel. As with natural stone tile, you need a larger wheel to cut through the denser material. Common choices include 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch wheels.
