Much to the delight of today’s new parents, there are several different types of diapers to choose from for their new little one. There are different styles and designs for all ages at all different stages and activity levels. With so many options available, maintaining your baby’s hygiene is convenient and easy.

However, with so many different choices for diapers, it can be difficult as a new parent to determine which are best for your baby. There are two main categories for diapers, which are pant style diapers and tape style diapers.

Newborns with Umbilical Cord

Tape style diapers are best for newborns with an attached umbilical cord. Some styles feature a cutout to accommodate the cord, while others can be folded down easily. Tape style diapers for newborns are also made with a soft surface that is gentle on baby’s sensitive skin.

Not Very Active

Babies who are still spending their days either eating or sleeping will benefit from tape style diapers. This style makes changing easier at this stage before baby begins to stand or sit. Simply lift up baby’s bottom as they lay on their back to put on the diaper.

Up to Six Months

Especially during the first few months, babies need to be changes many times a day. A large number of those times will be heavily soiled. Tape style diapers are highly beneficial during this stage.

As baby grows and becomes more active you may want to consider other options. However, it is often ideal to use tape style diapers at least until baby starts to crawl.
